What is a doula?
A WOMAN WHO SERVES
The word “doula” is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘a woman who serves’.
What does a doula do?
-Support women and their partners before, during and after childbirth.
-Help facilitate safe, positive and empowering birthing experiences.
-Offer evidence-based information.
-Emotional support
-Physical support.
What a doula DOES NOT do:
-Do NOT preform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring.
-Do NOT give medical advice or diagnose conditions.
-Do NOT take over the role of husband or partner.
-Do NOT deliver the baby.
-Do NOT change shifts.
-Do NOT make decisions for you.
-Do NOT speak to care providers for you, we remind and encourage you to use YOUR voice.

"This was my second birth and it was successfully done at a midwife birthing center. Ana was amazing to have at the birth! Having a doula was not part of the original plan, but after. If l have another kid, l will definitely ask her to be there. She was on top and a quick responder to my needs and wishes while in labor. She was amazing with the counter pressure for my back labor and could appropriately adjust as needed. She kept water on hand and me hydrated. She answered questions and was encouraging at the right moments. Having Ana at my birth freed up my husband to be my emotion support and took pressure off of him to counter pressure and help during labor, which he didn't have knowledge for doing. She helped after the birth making sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. In closing it was a blessing having Ana doula at my birth, l would recommend and request her in future births."
